Event Name: Space Mission Analysis & Design Series - Orbit Design (Part 1 of 3)
Location: Online
Date(s): Dec-4
Time: 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. (ET)
Price: Free
Description:

Systems Tool Kit (STK) is a digital mission engineering application that features an accurate, physics-based modeling environment in which you can analyze platforms and payloads in a realistic mission context. With STK, you can design your satellite, model constraints, vary parameters, and analyze the performance within the entire space system. It’s exactly the kind of tool you need for space mission design and analysis because it enables you to continually validate your design against the operational environment in which it will need to perform.

In the first part of this series, we will focus on orbit design and optimization. You will learn about the types of orbits and orbital elements, the relationship between satellites and ground targets, and determine how to optimize observation time between them.

In this class, you will:

  • Conduct orbit trades to determine the optimal orbit for a spacecraft given various constraints
  • Abide by fuel, mass, and launch vehicle constraints
  • Explore trajectories from launch to orbit

Engineers will be on hand to answer your questions live.

Comments:

You can use STK Cloud, a web-based version of STK, to follow along with the instructor for this class. There is nothing to download in advance with STK Cloud. It does not require a license or software install. If you would like to use STK Cloud, please select that option when registering and use the link provided in your confirmation email the day of the class to access STK Cloud. To use STK Cloud, you will need the following:

  • An agi.com account
  • HTML5-capable browser (IE is not recommended)
  • Fast, stable Internet connection that allows web-socket connections - test your connection here
