Event Name: Space Mission Analysis & Design Series - Communication Design (Part 3 of 3)
Location: Online
Date(s): Dec-18
Time: 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. (ET)
Price: Free
Description:

Over the course of this training series we have studied the impact that orbits and power have on your satellite design. Various features of the satellites significantly influence the performance of their communication system as well.

In this final class, we will explore an end-to-end communication system design. The goal is to characterize a communication link between our space and ground assets, to choose the spacecraft components that best satisfy the link requirements. We will establish a link and telemetry budget for the mission as well as examine the effects of environmental losses. The conclusion of this analysis will tell us which transceivers will best satisfy the link requirements.

In this class, you will:

  • Model a complete RF link between a ground station and your recently designed spacecraft
  • Create a custom antenna in Ansys HFSS and integrate your antenna design into STK
  • Perform trade studies on properties such as power and modulators to optimize the RF link/li>
  • Model environmental losses on the RF link

Engineers will be on hand to answer your questions live.

Comments:

You can use STK Cloud, a web-based version of STK, to follow along with the instructor for this class. There is nothing to download in advance with STK Cloud. It does not require a license or software install. If you would like to use STK Cloud, please select that option when registering and use the link provided in your confirmation email the day of the class to access STK Cloud. To use STK Cloud, you will need the following:
